Meet our 2019 Zenith Artist, Helen Hwaya Kim!
Helen Hwaya Kim made her orchestral debut with the Calgary Philharmonic at the age of six, and has gone on to become a respected and sought-after artist. She has appeared as a soloist with the Boston Pops at Boston’s Symphony Hall, as well as with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras.Praised for her “Commanding presence and compelling artistry “ by the
Ottawa citizen, her recent season highlights include debut performances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the 2019 San Miguel de Allende International Chamber Music Festival.
Ms. Kim is the full professor of violin at Kennesaw State University. Ms. Kim earned her Bachelor and Master’s Degree from the Juilliard School, where her teachers included Cho-Liang Lin and Dorothy DeLay. While attending Juilliard, she was a winner of the Juilliard Concerto Competition and served as concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra. She is the recipient of more than one hundred national and international awards. In 1992, she won the prestigious Artists International Competition in New York and, as a result, gave debut recitals at Carnegie Weill Hall and the Aspen Summer Music Festival.

Meet our 2019 Zenith Artist, Anna Reider!
The Cincinnati Enquirer has called violinist Anna Reider “superb,” “a showstopper,” and a “solo artist of the highest caliber.” Born in Russia to a family of musicians, Ms. Reider began her violin studies at the age of six, following in the footsteps of both her father (Vladimir Reider) and her grandfather (Itzhak Reider), and has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America, Russia and Israel as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician.

“We are incredibly excited for this year’s program that will kick-off with a major headliner, cellist Amit Peled. And by moving the festival to early June, we will be strengthening our educational component with local schools and students,” said Artistic Director Ashley Sidon, the Briggs Endowed Professor of Cello at Drake University.
Drake University announces Zenith’s 2019 Season
On the evening of our opening concert this season, we will have complimentary bar access for our VIPs! Persons with VIP status will also have access to a reception with the musicians following the concert. This is the best opportunity throughout the festival to get to know the distinguished musicians behind the music! Take pictures, ask questions, have some drinks, and learn about chamber musicianship from local and traveling artists.
The VIP reception will take place after the concert at the Temple for Performing Arts, on August 14th at 7:30 p.m.

This year, the season will begin with an event unlike any other in Zenith Chamber Music Festival history. On Saturday, August 11th at noon, there will be a pop up concert at Raygun Shirts in Des Moines’ East Village featuring local string ensemble, Quartet 515! Quartet 515 was formed in 2015 from a desire to create beautiful chamber music within the local Des Moines community. The musicians are Hanna Wolle on violin, Nina Liu on violin, Joyce Beyer on viola, and Paul Virgilio on cello. If you would like to learn more about Quartet 515, visit their Facebook page here.
