String Quartet Composition Competition
In celebration of its 10th Season, Zenith Chamber Music Festival seeks works for string quartet or trio. The winner will receive $1000 and a performance at the Zenith Chamber Music Festival’s 2024 season in Des Moines, IA, June 4-8, 2024.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- Works should not include non-interactive electroacoustic elements (e.g., fixed media).
- An entry fee of $25 must be included with the submitted score.
- Attendance at the festival is strongly encouraged.
- In the unlikely event that no entry is worthy of the award, the University reserves the right to award no prizes or prize money in that category.
- SUBMISSION DEADLINE: February 5, 2024.
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES
- Submitted works may be scored for traditional string quartet (2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello) or any trio combination with that instrumentation.
- Works must not exceed 15 minutes in duration.
- Results will be announced by February 15, 2024.
- The composer of the winning work will receive $1,000 prize and the winning work will be performed by Zenith Artists during the June 4-8, 2024 festival.
- The winning composer must agree to provide parts by March 1, 2024 in order to guarantee performance.
HOW TO ENTER
- Submit an ANONYMOUS PDF and audio file (mp3 or MIDI) of each score to: ashley.sidon@drake.edu
- The submitted PDF and audio files must be free of all names and identifying marks, other than the work’s title.

The mission of the Zenith Chamber Music Festival (ZCMF) is to break down barriers and bridge gaps in the classical music world by providing engaging and diverse music programming and performances to the Des Moines community through our accessible free concert series. We aim to increase accessibility to world-class local and international artists by showcasing them in unique venues throughout the area.
